Artistic Director Davide Rampello said, “The aim was to provide a new experience by allowing visitors to see the David at eye level”.
Dubai Expo visitors, who had high hopes to see the 3-D twin of Michealangelo`s David, were disappointed as only the statue head is visible. The head and neck of the six-metre-tall reproduction of the Renaissance statue are displayed in a giant structure at the first level, while the lower body is reserved for selected visitors at a lower level.
The replica from the Galleria dell accademia museum in France, has been created using one of the worlds largest 3D printers. The technique involved 40 hours of digital scanning of the original 16th century marble artwork with finishing touches completed by hand.
