Hindenburg Research Says Something ‘Big’ Soon India: Another Adani-like Bombshell?

Hindenburg Research Says Something 'Big' Soon India: Another Adani-like Bombshell?

Hindenburg Research, the US short seller that shook the Indian financial markets last year, has hinted at another major revelation in India. Hindenburg Research says something ‘big’ soon India, sparking widespread speculation about what could be the next target after its explosive report on the Adani Group in January 2023.

Last year, on January 24, Hindenburg Research released a report sharply criticizing the Adani Group just before the planned share sale of Adani Enterprises. This report alleged stock manipulation and fraud by the conglomerate, leading to an $86 billion decline in the market value of Adani Group’s stocks and a significant sell-off of its overseas listed bonds. The accusations sent shockwaves through the market, with Adani Group companies losing over USD 100 billion in share value.

The Adani Group has consistently denied the accusations, labeling them baseless. Despite the group’s strong rebuttals, the report had a lasting impact, with political and financial circles buzzing with discussions about its implications. The controversy also drew attention to allegations made by India’s senior lawyer and BJP leader, Mahesh Jethmalani, who claimed that a US-based businessman with Chinese links had commissioned the Hindenburg report. He suggested that the report was a “hit job” on the Adani Group as a form of Chinese retaliation for losing out on significant infrastructure projects.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of India gave a clean chit to the Adani Group after SEBI’s investigation into the Hindenburg charges. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, during the Annual General Meeting of Adani Enterprises, addressed the crisis, stating that the group had “faced baseless accusations made by a foreign short seller” and emerged stronger despite the unprecedented attack.

With Hindenburg Research saying something ‘big’ is coming soon in India, the financial and political sectors are once again on high alert. The anticipation is building as everyone waits to see who or what might be the next focus of Hindenburg’s critical scrutiny in the Indian market.
