The unfortunate incident that claimed lives of 13 people, including the Army Chief and his wife has sent grief waves across the country.

The Indian Airforce has confirmed that the only survivor of the mishap is Group Captain Varun Singh. The Group Captain has sustained critical injuries and is currently being treated at the Military Hospital in Wellington.

A year ago, he was successful in averting another mishap when a Light Combat Aircraft that he was flying developed system failure, resulting in total loss of control. Going beyond the call of duty, he had managed to land the aircraft. It was for this “act of exceptional gallantry”, that he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra on Independence Day this year. In a tweet, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has prayed for the speedy recovery of the Shaurya Chakra awardee Group Captain.
