India is celebrating its 72nd Republic Day today and the Rajpath and several other border points of the national capital have been brought under a multilayer security protection by deploying thousands of armed personnel, in the view of Republic Day celebrations and the proposed tractor parade by farmers to be conducted today. The Indian Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950, which declared India’s as an independent republic nation. This year though, only 25000 people will be permitted to attend the ceremony at Rajpath following Covid guidelines, in contrast to over 1 lakh spectators that usually attend the ceremony. Moreover, the parade will be shorter this time and a 122-member proud contingent of Bangladesh armed forces will also march on Rajpath today. India is currently celebrating Swarnim Vijay Varsh (Golden Jubilee Year) commemorating India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that led to the formation of Bangladesh.
