Amid a long scuffle for power between Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and Congress leader Navjot Singh Siddhu, the Congress central leadership proclaimed Siddhu as the new President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. The news finally came out on Sunday evening when an official Press release was circulated by General Secretary, K.C. Venugopal citing the decision taken by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The press release by Rajya Sabha MP also mentioned the appointment of Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel, and Kuljit Singh Nagra as Working Presidents of Punjab Congress. The former cricketer will take place of the outgoing PCC President, Sunil Jakhar.
Siddhu resigned from Amarinder’s government in 2019 and has been bashing at Government’s functioning since then. The tussle could not be resolved even after several interventions of Senior leaders. This decision is supposed to be a political revival for Siddhu in Punjab and inside Congress as well.
It is believed that Captain has although accepted the decision but is not happy with it. He was also said to be ignored on the choice of the Working Presidents. Moreover, he tried all his possible moves to curb down the rank rising of Siddhu but could not succeed. His resentment with this decision can also fire back at Congress in the future.
