Yoga guru Ramdev apologised for a comment he made that was criticised for being “sexist” a few days earlier.

In response to comments he made at an event where Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of the state’s deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, was also present, the Maharashtra Women’s Commission sent him a notice.

Yoga master Ramdev was heard saying, “Women look good in saris, they look great in salwar suits, and in my view, they look good even if they don’t wear anything like me,” while speaking at the event, a yoga training program, on Friday in Thane, Maharashtra.

In order for everyone to live a long life, Ramdev urged everyone to smile and be cheerful at all times.

He talked with women who had brought saris and yoga wear to the conclave and went to a Ramdev training camp. Many women did not have time to change because the meeting began right after the training camp, so they showed up in their yoga suits.

Ramdev noticed this and said there was no issue if they didn’t have time to change into saris because they could do so after leaving for home. This comment has been referred to as “sexist” in some circles.

Shrikant Shinde, the MP for Thane’s Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena district and the son of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, occasionally attended as well as other well-known individuals.

RAMDEV RECEIVES FLAK FOR COMMENT

Taking a serious note of Ramdev’s controversial statement, the Maharashtra State Women Commission’s chairperson Rupali Chakankar on Saturday served a notice to the latter asking him to clarify his stand in three days.

Yoga Guru Ramdev Apologises for ‘Women Look Good Even if They Don’t Wear Anything’ Remark

Rupali Chakankar tweeted on the matter today and said that Ramdev has issued an apology for his comments. “The commission office has received his clarification regarding this and he has apologized for the statement made,” Chakankar said in a follow-up tweet today.

Additionally, opposition parties in Maharashtra and other regions of the nation denounced the yoga guru’s remarks.

Sanjay Raut, the leader of the Shiv Sena, criticised Ramdev for the statement and questioned why Amruta did not object when it was made. “The government says nothing when the Governor insults Shivaji, when the chief minister of Karnataka threatens to annexe villages from Maharashtra, and now when BJP candidate Ramdev abuses women. Has the government refrained from commenting on Delhi’s mortgage? Said Raut.

Workers of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) staged a protest condemning Ramdev’s comment and garlanded his photo with a pair of chappals.

Maharastra Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant claimed that the Yoga guru’s real mindset has been exposed by his statement.
