Nadda lauds NEP; Efforts being made under the leadership of PM Modi to make India a hub of quality education

Bharatiya Janata Party chief JP Nadda on Wednesday said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is a lot of emphasis on education and efforts are being made to make India a hotbed of quality education. He said that the National Education Policy (NEP) is a product of five years of “Tapasya” and “Mahayagya”, which will lead the country towards “Indian” education and help people to come out of the Colonial mindset.

Addressing the ‘Teachers Summit’ in Ahmedabad, Nadda said, “Today we can say that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is a lot of emphasis on education in the country.”

“There was a time when we used to talk about spending three, four, five per cent of GDP on education. We would also say that education was being neglected. But today, to bring back Nalanda University to its former glory, Prime Minister Modi has allocated Rs. 2,700 crore to improve the glory of that university,” Nadda said.

“You must understand that India is going to become a big hub of quality education and we are working in this direction. Hence, it should be aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) education for an aatmanirbhar country,” Mr. Nadda said. He said that at a time when the country is celebrating the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, we should break out of the colonial mindset and give up the idea that everything is best in the West.

He said that at a time when the country is celebrating the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, we should break out of the colonial mindset and give up the idea that everything is best in the West.

“We have encouraged superficial thinking and ignored deep thinking somewhere, due to which we have come to develop a colonial mentality. We should get out of it ,we should be proud of our things. We must understand that we must be what is inherited,” he said in the gathering.

He said that PM Modi has offered 2020 NEP to the country after conducting “Mahayagya” and there is five years of “penance” behind it. The NEP was prepared after an extensive consultation process involving 2.5 lakh gram panchayats and 12,500 local bodies. Discussions were held in 575 districts. He said that out of 15 lakh suggestions, two lakh have been approved.

He said, “The NEP 2020 has been prepared after this Mahayagya. You are fortunate that the education policy made in independent India was promoted with the spirit of freedom, which originated from the soil of India.”

He said, “Today you have got the right to study in your mother tongue because of our PM Modi. Now education will not be Indian education, it will be “Bhartiya” education.” NEP will produce skilled, confident and practical minded youth. He said it would be good to use the NEP as a powerful tool.

Shri Nadda also talked about the government’s policy of making 14,500 schools as top model schools. He said that 14 engineering colleges in 8 states would provide education in five regional languages. “A special effort is being made for socio-economic transformation. We have to change the narrative,” he said, talking about the youth program of the center to encourage young writers. He said that efforts are also being made to establish our best institutes across the world.
