Karnataka hijab issue will blow over with ban on CFI, says Udupi MLA

The hijab controversy, which started at a pre-university college in Udupi district, allegedly at the behest of the Campus Front of India (CFI), was one of the reasons behind the decision to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates. MLA Raghupati Bhat said on Wednesday.

We had provided the investigating agency with sufficient information on the issue and the involvement of the CFI, the student wing of the banned PFI has been set up,” he told reporters in Udupi. He said that now that CFIs have also been banned, the controversy in the campuses will naturally erupt.

Bhat claimed that the girls who first raised the issue of hijab at Government PU College in Udupi had opened a Twitter account after joining the CFI. “Without the CFI, there would be no hijab controversy. Girl students were being trained at secret places,” he alleged. Bhat said the hijab controversy was discussed at an international forum. He claimed that the CFI’s campaign made headlines in Pakistan and money was supplied from abroad for the movement.

On the allegation that the RSS was behind the ban, Bhat said the public knows the reasons for the Centre’s decision. He said that a large section of Muslims has also welcomed the ban on PFI.
