Assam forest officials recover 13 exotic animals in Cachar district

According to officials, up to 13 unusual animals were found in Assam’s Cachar district along the border with Mizoram.

The animals were discovered imprisoned in three boxes in a tea garden region, according to forest officials.

According to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), (Cachar) Tejas Mariswami, “These animals were trafficked across the border.”

The monkey species belonging to Spot Nosed Guenon Debrazza has been found by the authorities.

The DFO Cachar district reported that “we have recovered seven Moor Macaques, five Lesser Spot Nosed Guenons, and one Debrazza’s monkey species.”

The strange animals were reportedly first noticed by villagers near the Derby tea garden region, who then alerted forest officials.

According to a member of the Cachar district’s forest department, when people called to report that some monkeys had been discovered in the tea garden, the department hurried to the location.

“We found the caged monkeys in three boxes. From the area, 13 monkeys were found. The personnel of the forest department announced that they will transport the monkeys to the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati.

On October 15, 140 exotic animals and birds were retrieved from three trucks in Mizoram’s Champhai area by Mizoram police and the Champhai Excise & Narcotics department.
