Proud Of Him, Says Infosys Co-Founder Narayana Murthy As Son-In-Law Rishi Sunak Becomes Next UK PM

Narayana Murthy, a co-founder of Infosys, expressed his pride in his son-in-law Rishi Sunak, who is slated to succeed David Cameron as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Sunak will be the first Hindu, person of colour, and person of Indian descent to serve as prime minister of the UK.

Sunak, 42, is expected to become the country’s first prime minister of Indian descent after winning the race to lead the Conservative Party on Sunday.

“Best wishes to Rishi. We are happy for him and hope he succeeds “In an email to PTI, Murthy stated his initial thoughts. We have faith that he will put the interests of the British people first. Sunak, the son of a doctor and a pharmacist, attended Winchester, one of the most prestigious schools in England, before moving on to Oxford. He worked for Goldman Sachs Group Inc. for three years before earning his MBA at Stanford University in California, where he also met the woman who would become his wife, Akshata Murthy, a child of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy.

In 2009, he wed Akshata, and the two of them have two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka.

A tumultuous few days in Westminster after Truss’ resignation last Thursday as a result of a disastrous tax-cutting mini-budget and multiple policy U-turns came to an end with Sunak’s win in the Tory leadership contest. A remarkable political comeback for Sunak—who just last month lost the Tory membership vote to Truss—was made possible by the former prime minister Boris Johnson withdrawing from the race over the weekend and the Leader of the Commons Penny Mordaunt conceding defeat just before the shortlisting deadline on Monday.

However, more than half of the Tory MPs officially endorsed him, demonstrating his continued popularity as the front-runner among his party’s members. Now, he must successfully navigate the UK economy through a period of extreme inflation while simultaneously bringing the disparate factions of the Conservative Party together.
