Online tutoring and coaching firm BYJU’s, a Bangalore-based educational technology platform, was established in 2011 and runs on a subscription model. The parent company of BYJU is Think and Learn Pvt Ltd. The main objective of BYJU is to provide online video lectures for both students studying for competitive examinations like the IIT-JEE, NEET, CAT, GRE, and GMAT as well as children in grades 1 through 12.

Launched in 2015, the BYJU learning software has been a huge hit. More than 15 million students utilise it globally and there are 9,00,000 paying subscriptions. The programme encourages kids to learn on their own rather than making them reliant on being spoon-fed. Products and services

After signing up, Byju’s, a high-end education tutoring programme, provides 15 days of free information access. With instructional techniques for kids in grades 4 through 12, it originally opened its doors in August 2015. For grades 1 through 3, an early learning curriculum was developed in 2019. Additionally, it prepares students for worldwide tests like the GRE and GMAT as well as Indian exams like the IIT-JEE, NEET, CAT, and IAS. Academic courses and concepts are illustrated in 12–20 minute computer animation films. With a total user base of 4 CR (40 million), 30 lakh (3 million) paying clients annually, and a customer retention rate of over 85%, Byju’s has extremely satisfied consumers. The business declared in 2019 that regional Indian languages would be supported in its app. The software was also going to be made available internationally in English.

New activities have recently been added to Byju’s Early Learn App for kindergarteners. In April 2021, “BYJU’S Future School,” to be run by WhiteHat Jr. Founder Karan Bajaj, was also announced by the company. The Future School uses an interactive learning platform that integrates coding with other subjects like math, science, english, music, and fine arts in order to bridge the gap between passive and active learning. The Future School will debut in the USA, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, and Mexico in May.

BYJU’s Founder

BYJU’s Classes, a provider of instructional technologies whose tagline is “Fall in love with learning,” was founded by Byju Raveendran.

In 1980, the founder and CEO of BYJU’s were born in the little Kerela town of Azhikode. He earned a B. Tech in mechanical engineering from Government Engineering College in Kannur, Kerela. Before starting BYJU’s, Byju Raveendran was a service engineer for a large shipping firm. But he started BYJU’s since teaching was his actual calling.

As a skilled athlete who competes in six different sports, Byju Raveendran also works as an entrepreneur and a teacher. He played table tennis, badminton, cricket, and football at the collegiate level. As he is known to his students, Byju sir has twice received the highest possible score on the CAT. In contrast, he never went to an IIM.

How Did BYJU’s Begin?

Byju Raveendran, a native of the little hamlet of Azhikode in the state of Kerala, worked as an engineer for a shipping firm in the UK. He started helping his pals while he was at work by helping them study for the CAT exam, which is required for admission to the best business schools in India. Byju took the test to challenge himself as well, and he did well. Instead of enrolling in any IIM, he started advising pupils while they prepared for their mathematics exams.

At first, he attended free mathematical workshops, but after gaining confidence in his skills, he started charging a fee. At one point, more than 20000 students attended one of his workshops due to their popularity. In 2009, he started shooting the workshops he organised, and he hasn’t stopped since.

Former classmates who had earned IIMs degrees encouraged him to enrol in BYJU courses. The goal of the business “Think and Learn Pvt Ltd” is to produce educational materials for children. He published Byju’s – The Learning App in 2015, and more than 55 lakh people downloaded it.

BYJU’s – Growth

BYJU is a really distinctive company that has achieved great success on the market. It uses rigid marketing strategies. Shahrukh Khan, one of Bollywood’s most well-known actors, is the brand ambassador for BYJU. The business has established a footprint in the Middle East and has successfully entered the Indian market. The expansion of BYJU into the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and other international locations. BYJU’s acquired the US-based learning platform Osmo in January 2019 to expand its presence there. Additionally, the business and Disney have teamed up to provide a young learners’ app for students in grades 1-3.

Recently, BYJU’s received attention for adopting a pro-active stance during the coronavirus outbreak. BYJU has made its learning app available to students for free until the end of April 2020, allowing them to continue their studies without interruption. This is because many schools in India were closed as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

It was simple for BYJU to reach its $1 billion revenue target for the fiscal year that concluded in March 2021. Additionally, with the start of the new fiscal year, money has already started coming in for BYJUs. The most recent round of funding for the Bangalore-based company brought in over $350 million from UBS Group, Eric Yuan, Blackstone, and others. With this fresh round of funding, the Edtech giant was valued at $16.5 billion in June 2021, surpassing Paytm, which had a $16 billion valuation, and becoming the most valuable company in India.
