Top dignitaries invited by AIIMS to be approved by Union Health Minister

As per the office memorandum, invitations to top dignitaries for the function at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) should be extended only with the approval of the President of the Institute. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is currently the Chairman of the Institute Body (IB) of AIIMS here.

It has come to the notice of the Competent Authority that without the knowledge of the Chairman, AIIMS, New Delhi, high dignitaries are being invited for the functions. It is directed that such invitations are to be given through the Director, AIIMS, New Delhi only with the approval of the Chairman, AIIMS,” said the memorandum issued on October 1.

This order has been sent to the deans of all educational, research and examination departments, heads of centers, medical superintendents and heads of departments. A former director said that Section 11(1) of the AIIMS Act, 1956 clearly states that the Director of the Institute is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute and is in charge of the administration.

So according to that the director can solve the domestic issues himself. So far no written order has come to my knowledge regarding such approval for inviting dignitaries. In case of convocation or function where dignitaries like Prime Minister, Vice President or President are attending, the concurrence of the President is taken,
