During his inaugural speech at 10 Downing Street, Rishi Sunak, the first Indian-origin and Hindu prime minister of the UK, was spotted donning the holy red Hindu “Kalawa” thread.
The Hindus utilise a cotton roll wrapped in scarlet thread, known as a “mouli” or “kalawa,” for all of their religious rituals. The thread is used to make a textile gift to the god. Any pooja must include the Mouli thread.
You defeat the adversary by tying it to the hand, and it serves as your defence.
When Sunak waved to the crowd from outside No. 10 Downing Street, he was observed wearing “Kalawa.”
Sunak made history on Tuesday by becoming the first person of Indian descent to serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the first non-white person of colour to hold the position, the youngest person to hold the position in more than 200 years, and the first PM to take the oath under the new King Charles III.
Sunak claimed in his announcement from 10 Downing Street that he was chosen to replace Liz Truss as prime minister because of her errors.
He also praised the late Liz Truss, the former prime minister of the United Kingdom “I would like to honour my predecessor Liz Truss. She wasn’t incorrect to seek to boost this nation’s economic growth. It is a good goal, and I respected her drive to bring about change, yet she committed certain errors that weren’t intentional but were nevertheless faults.”
“Trust is earned, and I will earn yours,” he promised the British people, promising to uphold their trust.
According to Sunak, his administration would operate with honesty, competence, and responsibility at all times.
“I stand here before you ready to lead our country into the future, to put your needs above politics, to reach out and build a govt that represents the very best traditions of my party. Together we can achieve incredible things,” said Sunak.
“We will create a future worthy of the sacrifices so many have made and fill tomorrow and every day thereafter with hope,” he added.
Sunak declared that he will seize every opportunity presented by Brexit.
He continued, “That work starts right now, and my administration will create an economy that takes full advantage of the Brexit opportunity.”
He began his speech by highlighting UK’s profound economic crisis. Sunak said, “Right now our country is facing a profound economic crisis. The aftermath of Covid still lingers.”
He also paid tribute to former PM Boris Johnson. The new UK PM said that he will always be grateful to Johnson for his “incredible achievements” as Prime Minister. He will treasure Johnson’s warmth and generosity of spirit.
His campaign platform includeincludeed promises for “a stronger NHS, better schools, safer streets, control of our borders, environmental protection, support for our armed services, and levelling up.”
After seeing King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, he was appointed the next prime minister of the United Kingdom.
After winning the Tory leadership election brought on by Truss’ resignation, Sunak will become the third leader of the UK in the past seven weeks.
Despite requests from the opposition Labour Party, Scottish National Party, Liberal Democrats, and Green Party for an early general election, Sunak rejected the idea.
