PM Modi will Address the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai

In a significant diplomatic move, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to be the “guest of honour” at the World Government Summit (WGS) in Dubai on February 14. This invitation marks Modi’s second appearance at the prestigious summit, the first being in 2018. The World Government Summit, an annual global gathering, has evolved into a crucial platform where world leaders, policymakers, experts, and thought leaders converge to discuss and address pressing global issues.

The Global Significance of the World Government Summit

Since its inception in 2013, the World Government Summit has become a cornerstone event, fostering dialogue and collaboration on matters of international importance. The summit spans three days, from February 12 to 14, drawing participants from governments, international organizations, academia, and the private sector. This global congregation aligns with the UAE’s commitment to providing a platform for open discourse and global cooperation.

Modi’s invitation to speak at the summit highlights not only India’s diplomatic influence but also the recognition of his leadership on the global stage. The summit’s significance is underscored by the participation of world leaders, previous editions having featured notable figures such as Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Georgia PM Irakli Garibashvili, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

UAE-India Diplomatic Ties: A Closer Look

The upcoming World Government Summit appearance follows UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s presence at India’s Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, where he acknowledged the event as a vital platform for economic growth and investment expertise exchange. His rare public speech at the summit reflects the high regard for India and Prime Minister Modi.

The diplomatic ties between India and the UAE rest on three pillars: Energy, with substantial oil trade worth billions; Economy, highlighted by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the recently approved Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT); and Expatriates, with a sizable 3.5 million-strong Indian diaspora contributing significantly to the UAE’s socio-economic fabric.

Modi’s Multi-Faceted Visit to Dubai and UAE

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE extends beyond the World Government Summit. On February 13, he will address the mega diaspora event, Ahlan Modi, in Abu Dhabi. The Zayed Sports City Stadium will host this grand gathering, touted as the largest diaspora event since the iconic Madison Square Garden gathering in 2014.

The UAE, home to a substantial Indian diaspora numbering 3.5 million, represents a thriving community that contributes significantly to the economic and cultural landscape of the Gulf nation. The Ahlan Modi event not only underscores the deep-rooted cultural connections but also amplifies the role of the Indian diaspora as a bridge between the two nations.

On February 14, Prime Minister Modi is set to inaugurate the UAE’s first traditional stone temple, the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi. This historic moment symbolizes the UAE’s commitment to inclusivity and tolerance. The temple’s construction on land granted by the UAE government in 2015 signifies a harmonious blend of cultural respect and diplomatic goodwill.

Economic Synergy and Strategic Collaboration

The ties between India and the UAE have grown stronger over the years, fostering economic synergy and strategic collaboration. The energy sector, with significant oil trade, forms a crucial component of this relationship. Additionally, the recent approval of the Bilateral Investment Treaty by the Indian cabinet emphasizes the commitment to strengthening economic ties further.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE will mark his seventh since 2014, underscoring the importance both nations place on nurturing diplomatic relationships. His frequent visits reflect a proactive approach to diplomacy, fostering collaborations that extend beyond geographical boundaries.

 A Diplomatic Triumph in Dubai

As Prime Minister Modi prepares to address the World Government Summit in Dubai, the global community watches with anticipation. This diplomatic stride not only positions India as a key player on the world stage but also solidifies the bond between India and the UAE. From economic partnerships to cultural exchanges, Modi’s multi-faceted visit exemplifies the depth and breadth of diplomatic ties between the two nations. As the world navigates complex global challenges, Modi’s participation in the summit becomes a testament to the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing the pressing issues that impact us all.
